Artist Statement
What’s happening to our children
what legacy do we leave
what thoughts of violence hate and distrust
do we teach them to believe
what’s happening to our children
growing up unwanted, abandoned
feeling they have no use
dying or suffering from starvation,
drugs, aids, sexual and physical abuse
what’s happening to our children
what laws protect them
before their cry is heard
without stripping them of their rights
their undaunted words
what’s happening to our children
is probably the same thing
that has happened too many
like you, like me
it is up to us to acknowledge it
to fight it, correct it
so our children can be free
